Civil Society Policy Dialogue & Capacity Building
Salary: ZAR353,629 – 409,370 total cost entry level
3-year contract post based in Midrand, South Africa
The Southern Africa Trust is looking for a dynamic, experienced, and skilled coordinator to develop and implement its regional capacity building strategy for civil society organizations.
You will coordinate initiatives that improve the ability of civil society organizations to better engage with regional institutions and regional policy development processes, and support the development of the institutional architecture of civil society organizations at a regional level in southern Africa. You will develop and implement activities specifically targeted at engaging diverse groupings of civil society organizations, including professional non-governmental organizations, research, policy analysis, and advocacy organizations, community-based organizations, and social movements. You will build and strengthen linkages with and between the Trust’s partner organizations working on issue-based initiatives, conduct needs assessments of specifically identified organizations, organize and facilitate skills sharing events relevant to current policy processes on poverty and regional integration, source and manage technical support to strengthen the policy influencing capacity of grant-recipient organizations working on priority thematic areas. You will promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and learning among civil society and other organizations in the region to develop shared analysis, models, and practices for more effective policy engagement. You will also facilitate dialogue and cooperation between various capacity building agencies working in southern Africa and provide advisory support to the Trust’s strategic direction and other programme areas from a capacity building perspective.
You have a relevant postgraduate degree or a minimum of five years related experience. You have excellent communication skills, strong networking and organizing skills, and proven research and writing skills. You are a strategic thinker who is familiar with the southern Africa region, especially the nature of civil society organization, development policy processes, and institutional architecture in the region. Competence in French and/or Portuguese will be a strong advantage.
