Grants Manager
Salary: ZAR496,464 total cost entry level
3-year contract post based in Midrand, South Africa
The Southern Africa Trust is looking for a highly skilled, dynamic, and experienced manager to run its grants facility.
In this senior position you will develop and implement a grants strategy that is in accordance with the Trust’s grants policy. In consultation with the board of trustees, the executive director, and the Trust advisors, you will develop and issue calls for grant proposals, facilitate the assessment of proposals received, facilitate decision-making processes for grant allocations, and finalise grant agreements with partners. You will be responsible for convening the proposal appraisals committee and the grants committee of the Trust. You will ensure compliance with all relevant policies. You will ensure that due diligence procedures, including risk assessments, are implemented before grants are disbursed and manage grant agreements with partners. You will ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of grant programmes and will ensure that site visits are conducted as required. You will manage a small team of grants officers. You will manage the grants budget and be responsible for preparing regular management reports on the work of the grants facility. You will be part of the management team of the Trust.
You have a relevant post-graduate degree or a minimum of five years related experience. You have strong grant management experience, highly developed networking skills, good financial management skills and extensive experience in project management. You are an effective team worker and have strong knowledge of institutional arrangements and debates within the grant-making sector in the southern Africa region. In addition, you demonstrate the capacity for strategic analysis of the state of civil society organisation and capacity in the region. You have proven organisational management capability. You are an independent thinker and demonstrate a high level of personal integrity. Competence in French and/or Portuguese will be an added advantage.
