As such, a 3 day symposium for actors and groups working in democracy, governance and development was held to identify strategies to feed into policy planning and implementation organs of the different nations and continental and regional integration schemes such as SADC, ECOWAS, NEPAD, AU and produce informed publications to influence necessary policy reforms. There was increased information flow and sharing of best practice amongst actors working in the area of democracy, governance and development. In addition, a foundation was built for the annual EISA symposium as a continental forum for dialogue and public debate around pertinent issues on democracy, governance and development involving key stakeholders. Research on and publication of material on issues of migration, xenophobia, regional struggles, status of social movements in the region will be undertaken. This led to greater corruption awareness among parliamentarians and creation of a regional focal point on parliamentary anti-corruption work and anti-corruption policy and practices harmonisation across the region.
