Knowing Civil Society Organisations
This report reflects the status of the organisations supported by the Trust after three years of the Trust being operational. It collates information provided in the project reports required of all partners, providing a lens through which to assess the profile and organisational health of a selection of Southern African civil society organisations involved in policy influencing work that has regional relevance.


Interim Impact Assessment of the Southern Africa Trust
This report provides an overview of how the Southern Africa Trust has implemented its work since 2006 and what its impact has been towards achieving its founding purpose to support deeper and wider regional engagement in policy development to overcome poverty in southern Africa. This summary gives brief pointers to some but by no means all, of the main outcomes of the Trust’s work over the period. It demonstrates how the Trust has enabled voices of the poor to have an impact on policy development in southern Africa.

Seeds of Plenty
This policy brief looks at the factors constraining the productivity of smallholder farmers to achieve food security for poor households and communities, as a contribution to poverty eradication in southern Africa. The brief examines the characteristics of the region in terms of poverty, the state of food security in the region, and current factors that limit smallholder farmers’ capacity to produce more food in a sustainable way.


Who Will Feed the Poor?
In an era of unprecedented rising food prices, the issue of food security has become a matter of life and death, particularly for the poor and vulnerable and yet debates concerning the causes of and solutions to food insecurity in southern Africa remain polarized.








Aid Effectiveness Research Report
Significant changes are taking place in the global aid architecture. A number of efforts are also being made to mobilise additional development finance and to make aid more effective in reducing poverty. The purpose of this study commissioned by the Southern Africa Trust is to generate knowledge and insight about how changes in global aid policies is affecting donor support to civil society in Southern Africa.
