A consultative dialogue between the Southern Africa Trust and civil society organisations in the Democratic Republic of Congo was held at the Recreation centre of the Southern African Embassy in Kinshasa, DRC on 6 June 2008. The dialogue was organised in collaboration with the "Conseil National des Organisations Non Gouvernementales de Developpement.

Regional Consultative Meeting
The Southern Africa Trust, in collaboration with the Foundation for Community Development, will on 6 June 2008 hold an urgent regional consultative meeting in Mozambique to address the current problem of internally displaced victims of xenophobia in South Africa. The meeting is expected to attract participation from researchers, human rights activists, civil society, business, officials of sub-regional organisations and the donor community working on matters that affect internally displaced persons and victims of discrimination. |

Consultative Dialogue between the Southern Africa Trust and Zambian CSOs
A consultative dialogue between the Southern Africa Trust and Zambian civil society organisations was held on 17 August 2007 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia. The dialogue was held in collaboration with the Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) on the margins of the SADC heads of state summit that was held in Lusaka, on 16-17 August 2007.

Consultative Dialogue between the Southern Africa Trust and Angolan CSOs
A consultative dialogue between the Southern Africa Trust and Angolan civil society organisations was held on 11 June, 2007 at Hotel Forum with the following objectives:
- to introduce the work of Southern Africa Trust to Angolan civil society organisations and key government personnel;
- to discuss ways of working with Angolan civil society organisations on initiatives to overcome poverty at the national and regional levels;
- to understand the dynamics of CSOs in Angola so as to enable the Trust to respond effectively to their needs; and
- to introduce the Drivers of Change Award to Angolan stakeholders.

Rules of Engagement: CSOs and PAP 7-8 May 2007
The Southern Africa Trust in collaboration with the Pan African Parliament successfully held a consultative dialogue between African civil society organizations and the Pan African Parliament from 7-8 May 2007. The dialogue, themed: Building Effective Mechanisms for Civil Society Engagement with Pan African and Regional Institutions, was held at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand, South Africa.

Donor Roundtable Dialogue
In order to discuss donor trends and impacts of shifting financial flows, Southern Africa Trust hosted a one-day donor roundtable on 2nd March 2007, at the Gaborone International Convention Centre, Gaborone, Botswana.

Consultative Dialogue with Mozambique CSOs Held at Hotel Avenida,
Maputo, Mozambique

A consultative dialogue between the Southern Africa Trust and Mozambican Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) was held on 17 November 2006 in Maputo, Mozambique aimed at:
- Introducing the Southern Africa Trust to its Mozambican CSO stakeholders;
- Establishing a platform for engagement between the Trust and its Mozambique stakeholders on a sustained dialogue on poverty related issues;
- Advising the Trust on how it can better assist CSOs in undertaking better policy work;
- Taking the step to communicate with southern African lusophone countries to understand their development concerns in the region; and
- Commemorate Dr José Negrão as the inaugural recipient of the Southern Africa Trust 2006 Drivers of Change Award.

Deepening engagement with CSO's in Mozambique
Following the successful award ceremony of the Drivers of Change held on 26th October, 2006 in South Africa in which the late Dr José Negrão of Mozambique emerged as the winner of the award, the Southern Africa Trust explored further ways of how it can continue to deepen its work with civil society organisations in Mozambique.

Drivers of Change Gala event
The Southern Africa Trust in partnership with the Mail and Guardian newspaper held a gala event at Summer Place, Hyde Park, Johannesburg on 26 October, 2006 to recognise the drivers of change. The late Dr Jose Negrão who was a distinguished leader in the development of land law for which he is renowned not only in Mozambique but in Africa as a whole was honoured posthumously as the winner. In the same light, the Treatment Action Campaign received a special commendation for driving change in policies and strategies to address HIV and AIDS.

SADC Secretariat in Partnership with Southern Africa Trust Launches the 2007 Secondary Schools Essay Competition
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat in partnership with the Southern Africa Trust today launched the 2007 Essay Competition targeted at secondary school students in the region.

Panel Discussion on SADC RISDP
The panel discussion was broadcast live from 15h00 to 17h00 on South
African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) continental television channel SABC
Africa with Mr Daniel Makokera as the moderator of the discussion. The
following were the four panelists: Dr Temba Mhlongo, Former Chief Director at the
SADC Secretariat; Dr Siphamandla Zondi, Director of the
Africa
and Southern Africa Programme at IGD; Mr Kwasi Abeasi, Chief Executive Officer
of the African Business Roundtable; and Dr Khabele Matlosa, Research Director
at the Electoral Institute of Southern Africa (EISA).

Consultative Dialogue:
The Southern Africa Trust held its first consultative dialogue with partners and potential partners to begin the process of setting an agenda for civil society engagement in regional policy processes in May 2006. At this meeting some ideas for a proposed agenda were presented and discussed. It was agreed that the Trust would build on the inputs made and develop a draft regional vision for overcoming poverty and an agenda for action to be circulated for further dialogues over the next year. This document captures some of the initial ideas as a contribution to the proposed process.

Launch of the Trust
The Southern Africa Trust was launched on 22 May, 2006 in Johannesburg at a colourful event attended by civil society organisations in the region. The Trust aim is for the poor to have a better say in shaping policies to overcome poverty in southern Africa. Southern Africa Trust strategies include capacity building; facilitating increased regional policy dialogue among governments, business and civil society; evidence-based policy development; and the provision of grants to a wide range of organizations to engage in regional policy work to end poverty.

Drivers of Change
The Southern Africa Trust, in partnership with the Mail & Guardian newspaper, announces the establishment of the DRIVERS OF CHANGE award.The DRIVERS OF CHANGE award has been established to hold up living examples of innovative practices, inclusive attitudes, and effective processes that build social trust and create the best conditions to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty. It will be awarded in three categories (i.e. civil society organisations, government, and business) to recognise individuals or organisations from across the southern Africa region that are making a real impact, especially in developing effective public policies and strategies, to overcome poverty.
