News from the Southern Africa Trust

We are pleased to announce a new grant of CAD4,6 million over two years from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). This will be through a donor harmonization agreement where CIDA transfers funds for the Trust to our founding major donor, the British Department for International Development (DFID), and delegates authority to DFID to manage the grant. This is significant not only because we now have a second major donor, but also because it represents an innovative model to improve aid effectiveness, that we have been promoting. The funds will be used to give grants to organizations that cooperate to overcome poverty across southern Africa, and to promote better engagement and learning amongst the relevant interest groups about how to overcome poverty more effectively. DFID initially provided a grant of GBP10 million over five years to the Trust for the same purpose.
