Linkages between Research, Media and Advocacy - Reports
In October 2010, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates Foundation) awarded a grant to
the Southern Africa Trust to implement a project aimed at creating linkages between research, advocacy and media. In the initial implementation of the project, a scoping study and a baseline survey we re conducted from the end of March 2011 to the middle of April2011. During the month of June, 2011, the Trust convened a series of meet ings at both nati onal and regional levels.

High Level Dialogue: Challenges of Regional Integration for Poverty Reduction
A High Level Dialogue on Regional Integration was held on 3rd November 2011, at the Sandton Convent ion Centre, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Dialogue was convened by the Southern Africa Trust (Trust) with the assistance of the Flemish Government, within the framework of the Flemish support for public discourse on regional integration.

Can Smallholder Farmers Address Hunger in the Region?
The Southern Africa Trust and the Institute for Democracy in Africa hosted a public dialogue on the role of smallholder farmers to address hunger in southern Africa. The public dialogue was facilitated by Chris Maroleng, Africa Editor eNews Africa and Presenter of Africa 360°. The dialogue provided a platform for stakeholders to engage on the important subject of food security and the role of smallholder farmers in southern Africa.

Pro-Poor Development at Regional Level - Challenges and Options
On May 11 and 12, 2011, the Southern Africa Trust supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur lnternationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ, held a workshop to identify obstacles of implementing the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) and Inclusive Business concepts that are specifically relevant for the southern African region. Companies actively developed a list of the major hindering factors and recommendations for the implementation of the above concepts based on the current regional integration approach.

Cross Border Migration and the Portability of Social Security Benefits
The Southern Africa Trust, in partnership with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Centre for International and Comparative Labour and Social Security Law (CICLASS), with support from the Flemish Government, hosted a public dialogue on “Cross Border Migration and the Portability of Social Security Benefits”. The purpose of the dialogue was aimed at discussing critical issues arising from the increased movement of people in the region in general and South Africa in particular, and how these affect their entitlement and access to social protection.

Business and Development: Doing Responsible Business in the Southern Africa Region
With the support of the Flemish Government (Belgium EU), the Southern Africa Trust is convening a series of public dialogues on "Regional Integration and Development", especially in the context of 15 Years of Democracy in South Africa. Between November 2010 and September 2011, the Trust will have organised four (4) public dialogues in collaboration with other relevant partners. These dialogues will focus on the following topics:-
- Business and development
- Cross border migration and social protection
- Food security in Southern Africa
- Governance, development and regional integration

Aid Effectiveness Report on Donor Roundtable Dialogue
The international donor community has put in place processes with the objective of enhancing aid effectiveness for a number of years now. The Rome High-Level Forum on Harmonisation (2003) and the Marrakech Roundtable on Managing for Results (2004) set precedents for the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness (2005) which remains a landmark document on aid effectiveness.
