Influencing policy to end poverty
in southern Africa

The Southern Africa Trust supports civil society organisations in southern Africa to participate effectively and with credibility in policy dialogue so that the voices of the poor can have better impact in the development of public policies.

Working at grassroots level, we seek to bring together the decision makers and those in need, to alleviate poverty and inequality through policy influence and global advocacy.

Thematic Areas

Poverty, Inequality & Unemployment

We identify key drivers of regional organisations in southern Africa and support their programmes for development and poverty eradication.

African Philanthropy

We promote and support sustainable philanthropic activities, in response to the needs of vulnerable groups in Africa.

Human Development

We engage with poor and marginalised people and connect them with the policymakers that can bring about positive change.

Civil Society Capability

We build capacity for civic organisations so they can actively engage with regional policy processes.

Trade and Industrialisation

We promote private sector and informal cross-border traders by involving them the regional processes of trade and industrial development.

Migration and Social Protection

We support policy development around migration to address its challenges and investigate the effects of socio-economic impact.

We have disbursed more than ZAR 241 million to deserving recipients to 197 organisations in 15 countries in the SADC region.
